What is Autism?

Autism is a neurological disorder that interferes with normal development of reasoning and communication skills. It is a life long developmental disability that makes learning difficult and can lead to serious behavior problems. Autism has been called the ultimate learning disability” because people with autism have great difficulty understanding both language and social behaviors. This affects their ability to communicate with others and relate to the world outside of the self.

What causes Autism?

Medical researcher are exploring different explanations for the various forms autism may take. There is agreement that the disability is caused by biological differences in the brain, as shown by autopsies of deceased persons with autism and a new technique called Magnetic Resonance Imagery (MRI) which shows serious abnormalities in the structure of the brain.

In some families there appears to be a pattern of autism or related disabilities, perhaps due to a recessive gene. However, autism appear in different forms and medical research continues to search for a better understanding of this disorder. However, new scientific evidence makes one point clear, AUTISM IS NOT CAUSED BY PARENTS AND IS NOT THE RESULT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS!

For reasons we do not understand, eighty percent of the children and adult with autism are male. Autism occurs in every known ethnic and racial group. Family income, lifestyle and educational level do not affect the chances of autism’s occurrence.
