Tip 3 for Single Mothers of Children, Adolescents, and Young and Older Adults with Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities

Being a single mother, I established the rule for my son with Autism that he must wear one head phone over one ear.

Several times I called my son’s name, but he didn’t answer. It was due to both music headphones over his ears. For this reason, I established a rule for our home: “Only One Headphone Allowed.”

As best as I could, being a single mother, I explained to my Autistic son the dangers of having both music headphones over his ears, especially while walking outside in the community, can distract him from his surroundings.

Still, my son with Autism did not heed my advice warning.
